Review of Bright Colours Collide

Bright Colours Collide have all the ingredients required to be the next uber cool rock band: great haircuts, excellent guitar moves, Interpol style post rock sound effects, and an angst ridden Robert Smith/Morrissey type vocalist armed with a tambourine and some serious facial expressions. Their guitar solos were weird enough to be cool- but not too self indulgent of course, and don’t forget one of the essentials- a quiet brooding, ruggedly good looking bass player. It didn’t matter that their playing was a little sloppy and the singing a bit off key. They were great to watch and their energy was incredible, especially considering it was Thursday night at the Greyhound and they weren’t exactly playing to a full house. And they had one of the best lyrics I’ve heard lately. My memory of the night is a little clouded from beer and lack of sleep, but it went something like ‘when I walk down Collins St, I feel like a leper’. Now can’t we all identify with that? Jokes about poser rock bands aside, these guys did show genuine talent, and an exuberance that held my attention for the whole gig. The next Strokes? Yeah quite possibly.
